General Conference Charlotte

This letter from Bishop Ken Carter, resident bishop of the Western North Carolina Conference, gives some of the background of the General Conference and is also intended to be an alternative to statements about our church that may be inflammatory or inaccurate.

There are many ways to remain informed throughout the General Conference in Charlotte and engage with the latest updates and resources coming out of the WNCC Office of Communications, as well as the denominational sources of news and information.

Help us welcome the world to Charlotte (more volunteers are needed, especially in the area of hotel hospitality - encourage people to sign up to volunteer at welcometogc.org and find more resources for preparing their congregation for General Conference.

The second in our series highlighting food-based ministry in the WNCC as we lead up to our General Conference in Charlotte. Please use the link in the article to share how you will nourish your neighbors April 23 - May 3 as a part of our General Conference mission initiative!

In April, United Methodists from around the world will be in Charlotte, North Carolina, for General Conference. We encourage you to make plans to nourish your neighbors during the two weeks of the General Conference (April 23-May 2) as a part of our mission initiative, One Body: Nourishing  North Carolina. During the run up to General Conference, we are lifting up diverse food-related ministries across the Conference that feed folks physically, spiritually, relationally, mentally, and emotionally.

The orientation and briefing for the upcoming General Conference will be livestreamed on February 29 and March 1 from 10 am to 2 pm EST. Non-delegates may register and watch as guests. Read the full press release for more information and to register.

United Methodist churches across North Carolina are encouraged to participate in the General Conference Special Sunday on March 3 or other appropriate Sunday. Liturgy, prayer, and downloadable version of the bishops' video now available.

The Western North Carolina and North Carolina Conferences of The United Methodist Church are thrilled to announce the official launch of WelcomeToGC.org, an informational website dedicated to enhancing the General Conference experience for those serving and attending.

Please let us know if you would like for a guest preacher from General Conference to be arranged for your local church on April 28, 2024. You will need to provide transportation from Charlotte to your local church on Saturday evening or Sunday morning, depending upon the distance from Charlotte to the church.
