Bishop Tom Stockton

We have received word of the Wednesday, October 18, 2023, death of Bishop Thomas Barber Stockton, a resident of Arbor Acres in Winston-Salem, NC.  Bishop Stockton was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Stevens Stockton. He is survived by three children and nine grandchildren: Lisa Stockton Howell, and her husband, the Rev. James Howell, and their children the Rev. Sarah Howell-Miller, Grace, and Noah; Tom Stockton, Jr., and his wife Margie, and their children Rosie, Elizabeth, and Katy; and Shannon, and her husband Shannon, and their children Regan, Taylor, and Sydney.  The service will be held on Saturday, October 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 West 5th Street, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27101.  There will be a reception after the service.

Bishop Stockton’s history of service is Thrift United Methodist Church in Charlotte, First United Methodist Church in Reidsville, Dilworth United Methodist Church in Charlotte, Central United Methodist Church in Asheville, Myers Park United Methodist Church in Charlotte, and Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in High Point. He served as Bishop of the Virginia United Methodist Annual Conference.
