"Almighty God, our prayers rise like incense. When we cry out to you, the Psalms teach us, you answer. The massacres of the innocent, in Buffalo, in Laguna Woods, in Uvalde are known to you. Our schools, our churches, our supermarkets are pierced by violence, racism and hatred. We sit now in the darkness of yet another grief, and we cannot be complacent."

Bishop Carter recently had the privilege to preach during the grand opening worship celebration of SouthPark Church in Charlotte. After eight years, this congregation is now able to worship in their new building. In his sermon, Bishop Carter took the opportunity to welcome them "Home." Bishop Carter encourages WNCC churches to participate in a Special Sunday Offering on September 26 to support relief efforts in Western NC following the aftermath of Tropical Storm Fred. Smoky Mountain District Superintendent Rev. Dr. Jae Lee offers a prayer, which can be used in worship, for those who have suffered loss and those who bring relief.
