Advent Messages from Bishop Carter

Celebrate the Advent season with us by watching these video messages from Bishop Carter. We will update this post each week leading up to Christmas as a new video comes out.

Week 1: Hope

Today we light the first candle - the candle of Hope. The Israelites' hoped that the promised Messiah would come. They had been waiting for the Messiah for centuries, wondering what he would look like and what he would do when he arrived. When Jesus was born, that hope was finally fulfilled – “a prophet like you” (Deuteronomy 18:15) had come.
What are you hopeful for this Christmas season?

Week 2: Peace

Today we light the second candle - the candle of Peace. Jesus made peace between humanity and God (1 John 2:2). Therefore, everyone who believes in Jesus’ divinity and resurrection (Romans 10:9) achieves peace with God. Their sins are paid for, and they gain eternal life (John 3:16).
What fills you with peace this Christmas season?

Week 3: Joy

Today we light the third candle - the candle of Joy. The shepherds serve as witnesses to Jesus’ birth and emissaries of joy. They received a message of joy from the angels and passed that on to other people after seeing Jesus. They even returned to see Jesus again and praise God.
What brings you joy this Christmas season?

Week 4: Love

Today we light the fourth candle - the candle of Love. Jesus’ birth was proof that God had not abandoned or forgotten the world. His gift of love had come, to bring freedom for captives and heal the hurting (Luke 4:18). Jesus was the perfect gift.
How can you show love this Christmas season?
