Organist/Pianist

Main Street United Methodist Church, Kernersville, NC, in the Piedmont Triad area, is seeking a part-time Organist/Pianist.
 
Part-time: 16-24 hours each week
Salary: $34,000-$37,000 commensurate with education and experience.
 
Organ Specs: 1994 Schantz Pipe Organ consisting of three manuals with thirty-eight ranks, 29 stops, and 2,228 pipes. Detailed organ specs are available.
 
Responsibilities: Organist for two Traditional Sunday Services at 8:30am and 10:55 am. Accompany the Chorale at the 8:30 Service and the Chancel Choir at the 10:55 Service. Accompany the Chorale and Chancel Choir Rehearsals weekly on Mondays and Wednesdays, providing organ or piano accompaniments depending on the style of the music. Provide organ music and choir accompaniments and any extra rehearsal required for additional special services, concerts, Cantatas, Christmas Eve, and Holy Week, choral workshops, or other special events; Accompany any vocal or instrumental soloists or ensembles at the request of the Director of Music; Play for weddings and funerals, as needed.
 
Necessary Skills: Excellent organ/piano skills—technical dexterity and accuracy; command of the instruments, skillful registrations; improvisatory skills a plus; knowledge of classical organ repertoire and sacred piano repertoire. A true church organist/pianist with service-playing experience; ability to play hymns with proficiency and sensitivity; a passion for music ministry. Excellent piano and accompanying skills; excellent sight-reading skills; ability to play open score. ability to play a variety of different musical styles. Strong sense of commitment to the Church.
 
Qualifications: A degree in organ/piano is preferred; previous experience as a church organist is essential; committed Christian; comfortable with the United Methodist Church tradition. Must be a team player who works well with others—both staff and lay-people; can be flexible.
